Natural World Products was delighted to volunteer recently at Daisy Lodge, the Cancer Fund for Children’s therapeutic centre in Newcastle, Co. Down. The centre provides families across the island of Ireland affected by cancer with a safe, supportive space to spend quality time together away from the pressures of treatment and hospital wards.
With guidance from NWP’s Sharon McMaster and the expertise of Jilly Dougan, the kitchen team got growing in their raised beds - filling them with New Leaf Compost and planting a variety of herbs, strawberries, lettuce, peas, potatoes, and spinach. The staff are keen to increase the amount of homegrown organic produce used in their catering while also learning how to compost on-site.
This project is part of Daisy Lodge’s commitment to creating a more sustainable environment, embracing peat-free growing, reducing food waste, and exploring composting as a way to support its kitchen. Not only will the fresh produce add to the centre’s culinary offering, but the garden will also provide a valuable learning and wellbeing space for staff and families alike.
We look forward to continuing our support at Daisy Lodge and seeing the garden flourish.
