NWP supports revitalisation of Donagh community garden

Northern Ireland’s leading organics recycling firm Natural World Products (NWP) has joined with a Co Fermanagh community group to revitalise and promote wellbeing within the local area as part of Community Garden Week 2022.

The Donagh Development Association recently received a donation of NWP’s organic peat-free ‘New Leaf Compost’ which has been used to restore and maintain the local community garden.

New Leaf Compost is made by converting household food and garden waste collected from local authorities across Northern Ireland, including Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

Patricia Mohan, Donagh Development Association said:

“We recently had some younger families move into the area and they expressed interest in reviving the existing community garden. The association realised the potential that the community garden had to really contribute towards sustainability and wellbeing locally, and thanks to NWP we were able to restore it to its former glory.

“The Donagh Community Garden has become a feature within the area, providing a place for people to relax and learn more about the benefits associated with gardening, and our ‘open-door policy’ means members of our community can avail of the produce grown within the space as and when they need it.

“We have also hosted a number of programmes and sessions designed to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, with yoga being a particularly popular choice amongst residents.

“Without donations of resources such as New Leaf Compost we would not have been able to provide this fantastic space for our community and we are very grateful.”

The Donagh Development Association was established to upgrade local access to facilities and enhance the physical appearance of Donagh village and surrounding area.

Patrick Kelly, General Manager, NWP commented:

“At NWP we are dedicated to helping local communities reap the rewards that come from more sustainable environments.

“We are always glad to donate our high-quality compost to initiatives such as the Donagh Development Association, and in this case, we are pleased to have helped provide dual benefit in terms of both sustainability and positive mental and physical wellbeing.

“The compost used to revitalise the Donagh Community Garden has been made using discarded household organics from within the locality as NWP works alongside many local authorities across Northern Ireland, including Fermanagh and Omagh District Council - perfectly representing a truly local circular economy in action.”

NWP is headquartered in Dunmurry with additional recycling facilities in Antrim, Keady, Co Armagh, and Drumanakelly, Co Down.

The firm processes 300 thousand tonnes of food and garden waste annually, delivering over half of all recycling across Northern Ireland.
