NATURAL WORLD PRODUCTS CELEBRATES COMMUNITY ROOTS

Brink! at the Belfast Stories site became a vibrant hub of community spirit, sustainability, and collaboration as local councils, community groups, and businesses gathered for an inaugural ‘Community Roots’ event hosted by Natural World Products (NWP), Ireland's leading organics recycling company.

Community Roots showcased the transformative impact of organic recycling in supporting local food systems and promoting community health, through a variety of interactive workshops and compost demonstrations.

The hands-on activities were designed to educate and inspire attendees about the benefits of green compost and organic recycling.

Participants gained valuable insights into how NWP’s high-quality, peat-free New Leaf Compost is helping gardens thrive, enhancing biodiversity, and fostering sustainable practices.

Peter Summerton, COO at Natural World Products, commented:

“Community Roots is about bringing people together to share practical ways we can all help build a more sustainable future. It is hugely encouraging to see such strong support from our local communities and organisations.”

A highlight of the day was a wholesome lunch made with vegetables grown at NWP’s community allotment in Colin Glen, showcasing true circularity in action.

The event also nurtured meaningful relationships between community groups, businesses and councils, strengthening shared environmental connections and commitments.

Sharon McMaster, Community Outreach Manager at Natural World Products, added:

“It’s amazing to see how much our community cares about green horticultural practices. From planting demonstrations to conversations over homegrown food, today was all about celebrating what we can accomplish together.”

The event welcomed representatives from organisations including Invest NI, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, Eco-Schools NI, Ulster Wildlife and YMCA, along with sustainability and recycling staff from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Mid Ulster District Council, and Belfast City Council.

John Murtagh, Waste and Sustainability Officer at Mid Ulster District Council, remarked:

“It is inspirational to see what can be achieved with imagination, community spirit, and some peat-free compost. We would like to thank NWP for its ongoing support of local schools and communities.”

Peter Kane, Sustainability Officer at Lámh Dhearg CLG Belfast, added:

“This Community Roots event provided great practical demonstrations of what can be created and achieved in small urban spaces. There was plenty of expert advice at hand and we are looking forward to the next one.”

Through its Community Roots initiative, NWP aims to showcase the impact of community-led efforts and emphasise the practical advantages of environmentally conscious solutions.
